Every November, The Brenda Strafford Foundation's Heart Home Network recognizes Family Violence Prevention Month, raising awareness, sharing resources, and inviting our community to join us in taking action to end family violence.

Family Violence in Alberta

Victim Numbers Are Rising

Identified victims in Calgary were 14% above the 5-year average by the end of 2024. This does not include unreported cases.

Missed Chances to Intervene

Studies show 7 out of 10 individuals charged with domestic violence had prior police contact.

Shelters Overwhelmed

Alberta shelters answered 53,391 calls in 2024, served 14,000+ people, but demand continues to exceed capacity.
