February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, raising awareness of teen dating violence and helping youth establish healthy relationships. 
 
Teen dating violence is aggressive, threatening, and/or manipulative behaviour from a partner in a romantic or sexual relationship. 20% of Canadian teens report being victimized by physical dating violence, 9% report sexual violence, 35% report emotional and psychological violence, and 10-30% of Canadian teens report being victimized by cyber dating violence. 

Join the conversation using #TDVAM on social media. Together, we can spread awareness and stop dating abuse before it starts.

Did you know Clare’s Law gives people who feel a Did you know Clare’s Law gives people who feel at risk of domestic violence a way to get information about their partners so they can make informed choices about their safety. 

Albertans can apply to find out if their current or former intimate partner has a history of domestic violence. They can also apply on behalf of a person they believe is at risk.

Individuals and families leaving an abusive situat Individuals and families leaving an abusive situation can access the Escaping Abuse Benefit that provides financial support with costs to leave. 

If someone is considering leaving their home and needs to end their lease agreement, they can request a Safer Spaces certificate that allows them to end the agreement without penalty.

Each year, we partner with several organizations across  YYC, including The Hearing Loss Clinic to provide each family residing at HHN a holiday hamper filled with essential goods and holiday treats. With nearly 300 women and children residing at HHN it is a big task to our team. Each year these holiday hampers bring so much joy to the residents, we love to deliver then just before the holidays. Thank you so much for the team @thehearinglossclinic for the support in providing several hampers and for your generosity you have showed our residents.

Did you know that support for victims of violence Did you know that support for victims of violence goes beyond the four walls of an emergency shelter? 

While shelters offer a safe place to stay, they also provide supports to families unable to leave home, or who cannot otherwise stay at the shelter. No one is turned away without being offered help. This includes risk assessments, safety plans, education on the impacts of domestic violence, and other resources. 

Alberta’s women’s shelters do amazing work to keep women and children safe from domestic abuse.
